2006 kevadel Islandis olles oli nii teles, kui ka lehtedes üheks teemaks USA baasi kadumine. Kui õigesti mäletan, võis seotud töökohtade arv olla kuni 3000. Autoga mööda sõites tundus ameeriklaste mahajäetud linnak korras, puhas ja ... tühi. Vaid üks turvafirma auto seisis nii, et maanteelt oleks ta nähtav.

Huvitav kuivõrd islandi pankade bilansid saavad tervemaks börsieufooria tõttu. Soome riik sai endale 10% Elisa aktsiatest kui paanika ikka valitses - aga edaspidi äkki islandlaste olukord juba paraneb...Euroopa riikide toetusmeetmed paratamatult jõuavadki Islandisse ka.
Huvitav on lugeda Kaupthingi Q2-aruande ja pressiteaded ja proovida aru saada mis oli üldse on viga selle pangaga. Pean tunnistama, et ma ise päris aru ei saa. Tundub, et kuuldused panid inimesed oma hoiused välja võtma, ja see oligi kõik. Võlakirjad vist hetkel kaubeldakse väga madala hinnaga, mis on äkki ka huvitav. Q2 raportiajal oli pank soliidne ja likviidne, erinevates riikides pidi olema olnud hoiusegarantiid, aga Suurbritannias see vist päris ei töötanud.
