Morgan Keegan, one of the best research houses on the Street is downgrading Apple (NASDAQ:AAPL) to Underperform from Mkt Perform.
Notablecalls: About time! I was all over AAPL when the stock was 35 pts lower. I now feel it has gone too far too fast. Needs to be at least 10 pts lower. The problems with iPhone in Europe should be weighing on the stock. Read what uber-analyst Tero Kuittinen had to say about European iPhone demand over at Realmoney.
Teatavasti on Euroopas iPhone'i hindasid langetatud ning Saksamaal T-Mobile'i võrgus saab telefoni kätte isegi EUR 99 eest (kampaania ise kestab 30. juunini - kas väike vihje?). Kuigi tõenäoliselt on eesmärgiks poed enne 3G toega iPhone'i tulekut tühjaks müüa, on senine müük Euroopas olnud pigem pettumuseks.
CNET News.com reports the co has cut its 2008 flash memory orders by $200 mln, according to iSuppli, setting up a down year for flash vendors. After crunching the numbers, iSuppli expects Apple to spend $1.4 bln on flash this year for iPods and iPhones, up 12% from $1.2 bln last year. But the analyst co, and the flash memory industry, had been expecting much more purchasing out of Apple, at least $1.6 bln.

Citi on CTIA konverentsi raames kohtumas mitmete telekomiettevõtetega, 3G upgrarde'de tulemusena soovitatakse osta "võrgumastide" haldajate aktsiaid:
Aggressive 3G upgrades by TMobileUSA, with 5k of the 7k planned upgrades already completed during 1Q,coupled with a 1H/08 push by AT&T for its pending launch of the 3G iPhone, should help 1H/08 tower fundamentals. Still prefer Buy-rated AMT.
AMT-d siiski ummisjalu ostma ei tasu joosta, hinnatase tundub positiivsete stsenaariumitega juba arvestavat.

Globe and Mail reports the Bank of Japan said Washington may have to use public funds to bail out U.S. banks hit by the credit crisis as Tokyo joined European calls for the Group of Seven states to work together calm financial mkts. The collapse of a mortgage bubble has so starved some U.S. banks of capital that the govt may have to step in if private investment does not work, said Masaaki Shirakawa, deputy governor and acting head of the central bank said before a G7 meeting this week. "First of all, it should be efforts by the private sector. But if the efforts by the private sector are not enough, a public capital fund injection, among various options, may become necessary," Mr. Shirakawa, the government nominee to head the BOJ, told a parliamentary hearing considering his candidacy. European finance officials have been stepping up calls for G7 nations to act together to protect the global economy and prevent another credit crisis from infecting mkts.

Although the indices closed around flat on the day, there were a lot of big reversals in some of the recent momentum favorites. Solar energy, steels and agricultural chemicals all opened very hot and then saw selling pressure most of the day. Given how far some of the hot groups have moved recently, some profit-taking was bound to kick in, especially when the emotions were running so high this morning.
Even with some rather dramatic reversals, the market continues to look pretty good technically. We are holding up, even though we are somewhat extended at this point. However, I'd like to see better volume. I'm concerned that it has been so light, as this market has run over the last couple weeks. We are not seeing big institutional accumulation, and that makes the underlying support a bit uncertain. At some point, to make this move convincing, we need better volume.
Despite some negatives under the surface, the bulls continue to have the benefit of the doubt because they are holding up so well. We've had plenty of good excuses for some profit-taking to accelerate, and it just hasn't happened. There seem to be some underlying support among underinvested bulls and that holds the seeds of further upside.
