Doggiest Day of the Summer Should Be Active

The jobs report, which will be revised and readjusted in coming months, came in just under the consensus. Speaking of revisions and readjustments, the jobs report from last month was revised higher. The report is probably pretty bullish in its implications, as I'd noted earlier this morning. However, Wall Street's focus is likely to move right back to Katrina and its impact on the economy, energy, earnings and even its impact on the "sentiment" of traders. The last Friday of the summer is typically one of the slowest trading and newsflow days of the year, but I wouldn't count on that today. Tensions, emotions and analysis are running very hot on the Street, and it could be a volatile, choppy day with lots of volume. Let's stay focused.
