European Union foreign policy chief Kaja Kallas said: “Today, it became clear that the free world needs a new leader. It’s up to us, Europeans, to take this challenge.”
Approximately 100 Danish troops had already arrived in Greenland’s capital, Nuuk, with a similar number stationed in Kangerlussuaq in the western part of the island.
Additional Danish troops are scheduled to be deployed on Jan. 19, though officials have not disclosed their exact number.
